  • Sir Howard Bernstein

    Sir Howard Bernstein

    Chief Executive, Manchester City Council, UK

    Sir Howard Bernstein has been Chief Executive of Manchester City Council since 1998 and was knighted for his services in 2003.
    He has driven Manchester’s regeneration, through strong public/private sector partnerships.
    Key achievements include a leading role in: renewal of the centre following the 1996 terrorist bombing; securing Manchester as Host City for the highly successful 2002 Commonwealth Games; introduction of Metrolink and its on-going expansion across the conurbation;  establishment of Manchester Airport plc in the mid-1980’s and its recent expansion; public sector reform, including the establishment of GM Combined Authority.
    In 2014 he led negotiations with Government to secure a historic and groundbreaking Devolution Agreement for Greater Manchester. He also led the development of a Memorandum of Understanding between GM local authorities, NHS England and the GM CCGs to secure the devolution of health and social care funding in Greater Manchester.
    External appointments include Deputy Chair of the HS2 Growth Task Force; Non-Executive Chair of Manchester Academic Health Science Centre.

    David believes in stunning design and innovative functionality as the path to successful buildings. In his 20 years designing large public assembly facilities, David has forged a vision for some of the world’s highest-profile stadium, arena and convention projects totalling over $10bn in construction.

    His comprehensive experience spans all phases of project development. He values a collaborative approach to design that successfully solves all of his clients’ needs related to aesthetics, program, budget, function and schedule. David’s passionate commitment and dedication to balancing the complicated needs of his clients have earned him lasting relationships with them all.

    Director Área Patrimonial, Espai Barça, FC Barcelona, Spain

    In July 2014, William decided to take on new responsibilities and moved to Spain to work as FC Barcelona’s Director, overseeing their Espai Barça Project.

    The project includes the renovation of Camp Nou (105k capacity), a new multi-purpose Palau (12.5k capacity) complete with training facility, a new Mini Stadium (6k capacity), and a mixed-use development on the Les Corts Campus served by a 3.5k underground parking facility, all worth €600m. Espai Barça’s completion is scheduled for late 2021. Previously, William was a VP at ICON Venue Group overseeing ICON’s European operations.

  • Tanya Dreesen

    Vice President of Partnership Activation and Special Projects, Minnesota Vikings, USA

    Tanya Dreesen is currently in her 9th season as a prominent member of the Minnesota Vikings. As Vice President of Partnership Activation and Special Projects, she collaborates on team and U.S. Bank Stadium presentations, and community relationships. She is responsible for the team that activates all sponsorships, including naming rights and new Founding Partnerships.

    Tanya provides support on critical new team initiatives such as the International Series games in London, the successful 2018 Super Bowl LII bid and the latest new 200-acre practice facility design and construction. Tanya led the development and curation of U.S. Bank Stadium’s art collection, as well as the buildout of the Vikings Voyage experiential fan destination and the design of the stadium’s iconic Legacy Ship sculpture. She also oversaw a revenue-producing fan paver program and is charged with integrating all sponsor branding throughout the stadium.

    Prior to joining the Vikings, Tanya served as Vice President of Marketing and Major Accounts for the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, activating Founding Partner roles for the Colorado Rockies and exclusive category sponsorships of the Denver Broncos, Colorado Wild and Denver Nuggets. Prior to Denver, Tanya led the Major Accounts Advertising Department for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

    Born in Toronto, Canada, Tanya began her career at The Toronto Sun as a member of the special projects team, which marketed and supported the launch of the Toronto Raptors NBA team. She was then recruited to a director position with Canada’s largest daily newspaper, The Toronto Star, where she led sponsorships for events, art and sports partnerships, including the Toronto Blue Jays, across all media properties.

    Tanya graduated with honors with a speciality in Advertising/Marketing from Canada’s Sheridan College. She was a three-time medalist in the Edmonton World Master Games for Rowing and has competed at the World Rowing (FISA) International level in Boston and Montreal Canada.

    Paul De Keerle is a French and Belgian citizen, resident in Paris. He has degrees in business from universities in Belgium (FUCAM) and Paris (ESCP EAP). Paul began his career as a consultant at Price Waterhouse Coopers.

    In 1988, he became CFO at a tobacco subsidiary in Brazzaville, before returning to Paris in 1991 and founding an IT company. He joined the French Rugby Union (FFR) as CFO in 1997. During his time with the FFR he has been part of successful 1999 and 2007 Rugby World Cup organizing teams, and since 2009 he has led the new national stadium project.

    Ten years at Wembley National Stadium Ltd, started as Assistant Events Manager and was promoted to Operations Manager.  I worked in multiple venues including the Arena, Conference Centre and exhibition halls.

    Ten years at Odyssey Arena, Belfast now SSE Arena as Senior Events Manager.  The arena regularly in the top 25 busiest concert venues in the world.

    Four years Promoters Rep/Production Manager for major outdoor events mainly with Aiken Promotions including Irish Bruce Springsteen and green field site concerts, average capacities 40,000.

    Two years as Stadium Director, National Football Stadium, Belfast.  Throughout this time, the stadium has been in a build process.  We have continued to hold extremely successful events throughout this period which has been tough but very rewarding.  The stadium is due to be completed at the end of September and we host our official opening match for the FIFA campaign on the 8th of October.

    Richard has over 25 years’ experience in the stadia and venue management industry having worked at some of the world’s most iconic stadiums including Twickenham, Wembley, the Olympic Stadium in Sydney and the Hong Kong Stadium.

    This breadth of international experience has given Richard a thorough insight into the business and operational models of different venues across different cultures and a full appreciation of how best to maximise the opportunities that each venue presents.

    During his career Richard has worked in and developed both new and existing stadia with a detailed eye for operational excellence, commercial progression and maximising the experience of all stakeholders.

    As Stadium Director at Twickenham he has been responsible for over £200m worth of investment, which has seen it develop from an aging rugby stadium into a genuine 365 day commercial business, which was recently the host venue for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

  • Celia Geyer

    Celia Geyer

    Senior Director Architecture & Design, Hilton, UK

    Celia Geyer is an architect with extensive experience working on a wide range of hospitality projects across EMEA.  Her strength lies in successfully integrating architecture, interior design and masterplanning assisting clients in creating aspirational high profile projects.

    She has worked for the last five and a half years in the position of Senior Director of Architecture and Design for Hilton Worldwide in the Architecture, Design & Construction team where she has built a highly driven and experienced team based in multiple offices.

    Her region of responsibility includes EMEA where she overseas the architectural design of all projects across all the Hilton brands whilst working alongside both the Development and CapEx teams.  She is a visionary thinker and has taken part in the development of new brands at Hilton, including the recent addition of their Canopy and Curio Brands.

    Prior to working for Hilton, Geyer was Associate Vice President and shareholder for WATG in their London office, where she was responsible for luxury projects and high profile clients across EMEA.

    For the last three years, she has been the chairman of the judging panel for the prestigious European Design Hotel Awards and has spoken at numerous International conferences.

    Geyer qualified in South Africa from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (formerly UPE). She is a registered architect in South Africa and the UK and a chartered member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in the UK.
