EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW: The US$1.7bn L.A. Stadium
It doesn’t come much bigger and bolder than this! Inspired by California’s love affair with sleek, metallic automotive design, the proposed new shared home of the Chargers and Raiders NFL teams in Carson pulls no punches.
The design, from MANICA Architecture, is for a 65,000-seater stadium (expandable to 75,000 for the Super Bowl), and boasts a sleek, aerodynamic shape – something its designers describe as ‘uniquely LA’. The horseshoe-shaped seating arrangement is open at one end, calling to mind the historic LA Coliseum.
David Manica, Principal, MANICA Architecture, will be showcasing the project next month, exclusively at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2015 in London.
With the teams collaborating on the US$1.7bn and planning approval in place, the design is now drilling down into seating options to make the most of the fine climate – from on-field patios, field suites and the ‘Hollywood Club’ which opens into the bowl. This is California Dreamin’ in reality.
