Meet the Projects: Brentford FC’s 2020 goal

The London club has made a critical decision regarding the move to its new stadium.

Brentford FC has announced it will be moving home to its new 17,250-seater stadium in the Summer of 2020 after spending its 130th year at Griffin Park, giving the old home a proper send off before the making the move to the new stadium in good time to commence the 2020/2021 season.

Brentford FC is joining us in London at TheStadiumBusiness Design and Development Summit and has said that “key milestones have been satisfactorily achieved with piling works for the foundations now 90 per cent complete, the first parts of the steel frame in place, and the laying of sections of terracing for the south stand well in hand”.

The club confirmed that the decision on the move-in date was made in conjunction with the development partners, EcoWorld London and their building sub-contractors, Buckingham Group based on the scale and complexity of the project.

“Given the complexity of large-scale building works adjacent to railway lines, the need to anticipate the normal delays and problems that inevitably arise in a complicated construction project, and the operational challenges surrounding a mid-season move, our view is that an end of season move is best”, stated the club.

Brian Burgess of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust will be at this year’s Summit. The Brentford Community Stadium is a key element of the wider regeneration of the area known as Brentford East. The development will deliver a stadium ready for both Premier League football and Premiership rugby, together with more than 900 new homes, a new purpose-built location for Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, and a public square with shops and cafes.
