#TDS22 Guest Q&A: Marylebone Cricket Club’s Robert Ebdon

Ahead of TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2022, Robert Ebdon, estates and ground development director at the Marylebone Cricket Club, discusses the ongoing development plans at Lord’s.

The MCC owns Lord’s, a 30,000-capacity stadium in London commonly referred to as the ‘home of cricket’.

The stadium has been undergoing a wide-ranging renovation project since 2014. The first phase, completed in 2017, included the construction of the new Warner Stand, while the second stage centred on the redevelopment of the Compton & Edrich Stands.

For MCC, attention is now turning to rebuilding the Allen stand and repurposing the Tavern stand.

TheStadiumBusiness: What’s exciting you in the field of stadium design at present?

Robert Ebdon: I’m excited by the re-purposing/refurbishment of stands as a sustainable way forward.

TSB: What’s in the pipeline for Lord’s over the next six to 12 months?

RE: Getting started on our next major ground development project at Lord’s: the repurposed Tavern Stand and a new Allen Stand and developing a planning application for this project.

TSB: What are you most looking forward to about the Summit?

RE: Sharing ideas, learning from others’ experiences and comparing notes on energy conservation!
