Raiders are one step closer to Las Vegas home

Just six weeks left until we showcase the world’s most exciting and groundbreaking stadium projects at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2016. This week we preview the latest project update on the proposed new Las Vegas Raiders Stadium, headed up by our Summit sponsor and speaker, and the project design architect MANICA Architecture.

Just days ago, a Nevada oversight committee approved public funding for the Oakland Raiders’ new home after a unanimous vote. The Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee voted to allow $750m in public funding.

The total venue cost is estimated at $1.9bn, with the Raiders contributing $500m and partners Las Vegas Sands Corp. reportedly putting up the balance.

The room-tax-funded, multimillion-dollar spend is pending approval from the Governor and legislature, but the development could see confirmation of the Raiders move from Oakland to Vegas – huge news for the NFL.

The next stage would see a pitch to NFL owners with 24 of the 32 needing to agree to the relocation at their planned January meeting. Earlier this year, Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner, said “he likely wouldn’t get in the way” of the move so long as the owners approve it.

Projected benefits of the new stadium include the changing of the University of Nevada from a commuter school to a residential university, as well as a Las Vegas Super Bowl with an expected earning of $35m for The City of Las Vegas.

At the NFL owners last meeting, The Raiders were denied a move to Los Angeles in favour of a new stadium to be shared by the former St. Louis Rams and possibly the San Diego Chargers.

MANICA will join 40+ world-class speakers on site in Manchester and we hope to gain exclusive insight into the latest on the Raiders’ decision by the time the industry gathers on 31 Oct-2 Nov.
