#TDS25 Spotlight: Royal Dublin Society’s arena revamp

Ahead of TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2025, we caught up with Greg Power, Director of Estates, Campus Strategy and Property Development at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS).

Owner of RDS Arena, in August 2023 the RDS was given the go-ahead for a €50m (£44m/$58m) expansion of the stadium, which serves as the home of United Rugby Championship team Leinster.

The RDS submitted a new planning application to Dublin City Council for the redevelopment of the stadium in June 2023. The project will raise the capacity of the stadium from 18,500 to 21,500, centring on a new, multi-use 6,775-capacity stand.

Power has served in his present role since joining the RDS in October 2023. He arrived at the Society following close to nine years as Head of Capital Projects and Planning at the world-famous Trinity College Dublin.

TheStadiumBusiness: What are the main projects currently taking place at RDS Arena?

Greg Power: “We are currently 60% through construction of a new 21,000 capacity stadium for use by Leinster Rugby, the Dublin Horse Show and concerts.”

TSB: What is the current status of these projects, and the next major steps for them?

GP: “We are on schedule to complete the stadium for its first use in the 125,000 patron Dublin Horse Show (Rolex 5*) equestrian showjumping festival on August 5, 2026.”

TSB: What are the most interesting, or challenging, aspects of these projects?

GP: “Activation with a new arena naming rights partner, and integration into our 43-acre campus for all manner of events.”

TSB: What are you most looking forward to at TDS25?

GP: “Learning the best practice, products, tools and techniques for stadium management.”
