Fulham FC confirmed as latest project to join #TDS16

Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage is the latest project to confirm its participation at TheStadiumBusiness Design & Development Summit 2016 in Liverpool / Manchester.

Over the last few years, despite relegation match attendances have risen from 9,000 a game in 1997/98 to 25,700 today. For the last three seasons Craven Cottage have been at capacity.

untitledTo accomodate for increasing demand, Fulham plan a 30,000 capacity for a ground currently holding 25,700. However, as part of that redevelopment, the Riverside stand will need to be extended and with the Thames right behind it, a part of it has had to be purchased.

To complete the redevelopment of the Riverside stand, Chairman Shahid Khan personally commissioned Heatherwick Studio, led by designer Thomas Heatherwick, to fulfil his wishes of creating an iconic landmark on the banks of the River Thames.

Having already secured planning permission, the plans will increase the capacity of Craven Cottage as they strive for a return to the Premier League.

Khan said: “The Riverside Stand project required patience and diligence, and ultimately a designer who understands the history of London, the Thames and, of course, Fulham. Thomas Heatherwick is that designer.”
